A dialogue session on the draft law on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly

Ufuq Organization for Human Development and the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities, with the support of the International Center for Non-Profit Law, organized a dialogue session titled: “Legislative Pathways for the Right to Peaceful Assembly, Civil Society, and Iraqi Minorities” in Baghdad at the Mansour Hotel on October 28, 2023. The session was attended by representatives from the Iraqi government, the Iraqi Parliament, the Independent High Commission for Human Rights, and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq – Human Rights Office.
During the dialogue session, presentations were given on the right to peaceful assembly in Iraq, legislative pathways, and the civil society’s perspective. The Executive Manager of Ufuq Development Organization, Mr. Wissam Ibrahim presented on these topics. Discussions also revolved around the perspectives of minorities regarding the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, led by Mr. Michael Benjamin, the head of AIM.
An open discussion took place, and the final recommendations for relevant parties were formulated.
