The Legislation Bill Of Information Crimes

Ufuq Organization for human development in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation a Germen organization, have established an interactive session entitled “The Discussion of the legislation bill of Information Technology Crimes… Safety & Freedoms” The meeting was attended by the civil society, journalists, specialists and technicians that are specialized in this field, human rights activists and freedom of expression activists. During the meeting, Mr. Omar Fattah, the Senior Adviser to the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee explained the background of this law in a discussion paper. Followed by another discussion paper presented by Mr. Mohamed the legal counsel in the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, also has evaluated the legislation requirements of this law. Moreover, the attendees have provided many notes regarding the Information Technology Crimes law. There was unanimity by the attendees on the need and urge to review the current version of this Bill (which is set up for the first time by the government in the year 2011). The audience and media professionals feared that this version of the law will tie and limit their freedoms. In addition, the activists and the stakeholders are also recommended the need to rework this Bill to be consistent with constitutional and international standards guaranteeing freedom of expression and the right to the Internet access.
