Ufuq present three UPR Reports

On September 11, 2019, Ufuq Organization participated with representatives of UN member states in a dialogue in Baghdad in preparation for the Universal Periodic Review on the human rights situation in Iraq.

Ufuq Organization presented three of the ten reports presented at this session, on topics (Minority Rights with Alliance of Iraqi Minorities, Civil and Political Rights in partnership with IOHRD, and the Right to Education), in the presence of representatives of 12 UN Member States, and ITU participants. European and NATO representatives of international organizations. Recommendations included better protection of the rights of minorities, women and detainees, amending Article 41 of the Iraqi Penal Code to comply with relevant human rights standards, and the need for shelters in all governorates for people at risk.

The dialogue, co-hosted by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) at UNAMI headquarters in Baghdad, was aimed at assisting United Nations Member States in formulating specific and well-targeted recommendations before the 34th session of the UPR Working Group to be held in November.

The interactive session was moderated by Dr. Herta Dübler-Jemlin, Professor of International Law and Former Minister of Justice of Germany.
