In the presence of the Special Rapporteur on Minorities in the World, a workshop organized by AIM

Mr. Ali Bakht Al Tamimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ufuq for Human Development, attended the workshop organized by our partners in The Alliance of Iraqi Minorities on the inclusion of the rights of language minorities in education, which was attended by the Special Rapporteur on Minorities in the World, Dr. Fernand de Varennes RP

The workshop was held in Irbil on 8-9 April 2019 entitled “Comprehensive Citizenship through Education” in partnership between the The Alliance of Iraqi Minorities, Norwegian People’s Aid Organization, Holocaust Center, Global Minority Rights Group, International Minority Association.

Mr. Ali Bakhat presented his vision at a session on the inclusion of the rights of linguistic minorities in education and pointed out that the preservation of languages ​​threatened with extinction is important and that speakers of these languages ​​should ensure the importance of preserving this cultural heritage.

He also pointed out that the role of scientific research in the study of languages ​​of minorities will be an important introduction that will have the effect of documenting its rules and sources and even in preparing curricula for teaching and training teachers to teach in the future.

These meetings were attended by a number of representatives of Iraqi minorities, members of the Council of Representatives and the Government of Kurdistan of Iraq.
